Description: City of the south west of Bolivia. It is located in the mountain range of the Andes, near Sucre, to 3.960 m of altitude, what transforms it into one of the highest cities in the world. It is a mining center that produces tin, silver, copper and lead. Their industrial production is of the most important in the country, with factories of processed foods, furniture and beer. Their architectural patrimony is represented by numerous colonial constructions: the cathedral, of Gothic style; the House of the Currency, built between 1757 and 1773 that it conserves important colonial files and one of the most outstanding civil buildings in Iberoamerica constitutes; and the University Tomas Fries. Potosi was founded in 1546, one year after they were discovered silver mines in the Rich hill to whose feet the town rose. In 1611 it was the biggest producer in silver of the world and had 150.000 inhabitants; however, in 1825 practically the silver had been drained and its population descended to 8.000 inhabitants. At the beginning of the XX century, the tin exploitation was increased by the world demand and, as consequence, the city experienced an important growth again.
